======================== Trouble-Shooting Guide ======================== Installing on older Debian releases =================================== **TODO** Fixing package building problems ================================ 'pkg-resources not found' or similar ------------------------------------ If you get errors regarding ``pkg-resources`` during the virtualenv creation, the ``pip`` shipped by your build machine is probably too old to handle current infrastructure (especially PyPI); this mostly happens on older distribution releases. Let *dh-virtualenv* upgrade ``pip`` inside the virtualenv before it installs anything else, by adding :option:`--upgrade-pip` (or :option:`--upgrade-pip-to` to pin a version) in ``debian/rules``: .. code-block:: make override_dh_virtualenv: dh_virtualenv --upgrade-pip Do not ``sudo pip install`` on the build machine: current Debian and Ubuntu releases mark the system Python as externally managed (PEP 668) and refuse it, and it would mix pip-installed files with packaged ones. Then try building the package again.
